Medical Laboratory Technology is the health profession that provides laboratory information and services needed for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Clinical Laboratory Technologist perform a variety of laboratory tests, ensure the quality of the test results, explain the significance of laboratory tests, evaluate new methods and study the effectiveness of laboratory tests.
BS (Medical Laboratory Technology) is a skilled based degree highly demanded by different quarters of health care delivery system. One of the prime objectives to initiate BS (MLT) program at AUST is to prepare a team of health technologists who can effectively assist senior health professionals in the delivery of quality health services. The graduated technologists are employed at different health sectors in senior positions as laboratory technologists and supervisors. Graduates obtained postgraduate degrees and joined academia to participate in MLT education.
The feasibility of the BS (Medical Lab Technology) program was approved on 20th August 2019. The Academic Council of AUST recommended the opening of new discipline of BS(MLT) in the department of Microbiology in its 9th meeting vide Agenda Item No. 3. Subsequently, the same was approved by the 12th meeting of Syndicate vide Agenda Item No. 04.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

Bachelors (MLT)

Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology is a four-year program that aims to train students in the basic Medical Laboratory Techniques used in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Blood bank, Microbiology and Histopathology laboratories. This program will provide the advanced knowledge of medical laboratory sciences facilitating the diagnostic services in the hospitals and research activities at higher teaching, diagnostic and reference centers
