I am honored to have taken over the charge as Head of the Department of Microbiology on 21st July 2025. Guided by the vision to align our academic programs with the fast-evolving global scientific landscape, I have introduced four new and highly specialized disciplines under our BS program:
1. Environmental Microbiology and Climate Change – addressing the urgent need for scientific solutions to environmental challenges.
2. Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapeutics – pioneering research and education in one of the most promising frontiers of medical science.
3. Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering – empowering innovation in life sciences, industry, and healthcare
4. Clinical Microbiology and Laboratory Technology – introduced for the first time in Pakistan, producing competent professionals to meet modern clinical diagnostic demands.
These disciplines are designed to cater to emerging scientific, healthcare, industrial, and environmental needs, producing graduates who are not only academically excellent but also capable of contributing meaningfully to national and global challenges.
With a commitment to quality education, advanced research, and industry collaboration, the Department of Microbiology at Abbottabad University of Science and Technology is ready to become a hub of innovation and leadership in the field of life sciences.
The Microbiology degree includes a broad background and education in the sciences, including chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics as well as specific, focused training in the field of microbiology
Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology is a four-year program that aims to train students in the basic Medical Laboratory Techniques used in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Blood bank, Microbiology and Histopathology laboratories.
Food Science and Technology is a broad-spectrum science focusing on the application of multidisciplinary subjects like chemistry, biology, and engineering to study the nature, physical and chemical properties associated with food.
M. Phil. in Microbiology is a postgraduate course which introduces students to the advanced fundamentals of small microorganisms. The basic eligibility for admission to the course is a Masters degree in biological sciences, chemistry, physics, and mathematics support the major.
Doctoral-level studies in microbiology focus on advanced application of scientific techniques to study microorganisms and how they affect human life, technology, the ecosystem, and other factors in natural science.
