Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry was established in Abbottabad University of science and Technology in August, 2017 and now it is one of the best departments of physical sciences. Chemistry is an important discipline as it deals with nature of matter, its composition and modeling. In that sense it really matters as it is essential to explain the entire real world. Traditionally, it is divided into sub-disciplines of Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Biological, Environmental, and Analytical chemistry. Modern interdisciplinary chemistry research is based on designing of model molecules that modulate biological processes, synthesis of novel drugs and diagnostic procedures for metabolic disorders, creation of new materials for energy storage, drug delivery and molecular imaging, and tailoring of material properties of all sorts. It is no wonder that chemistry is called the “Central Science”. The department has offered Bachelor program (BS Hons) in chemistry. In the Department, courses modules have been designed to fulfil the current demands according to professionalism, marketability and employability. Our goal is to provide a balanced introduction to the discipline and to train the students about the application of scientific principles particularly those of chemistry. A chemist must be acquainted with many biological disciplines and with all major groups of natural and biological science. Students undergo introduction to the entire field before concentrating on specialized areas that might be more interesting to them. Other than academic activities, chemistry laboratories provide some basic facilities to the students and enable them to accommodate in the academic and research organizations, hospitals, serological & pathological diagnostic laboratories, pharmaceutical, food fisheries, wild life and various industries. The department has highly qualified, experienced and young talented faculty members and aims to establish Abbottabad University of Science and Technology as one of the leading institution in physical and biological sciences both at national and international level.
